WHERE TO RIDE:
NINE MILE COUNTY FOREST: This is the gem of Marathon County, a 4900 acre county forest just minutes west of Wausau. Nine Mile has over 30 miles of trails resting on about 1700 acres of the 4900 total acres. About 30km (19 miles) are double track ski trail with 12 miles of technical single track for all skill levels and the remainder consists of snowmobile trail and old logging road/woods trail. Riding season is May 1st through October 15th. Trail passes are required and can be purchased through a self serve station at the trailhead or at the Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry offices at 212 River Dr., Wausau, WI (right next to the kayak course). For more information visit Marathon County Parks, Recreation and Forestry website.
BIG EAU PLEINE COUNTY PARK: A 1400 acre peninsula jutting out into Eau Pleine reservoir located 8 miles west of Mosinee, WI and just to the south of State Hwy 153. The Big Eau Pleine has been the site of recent trail building activity by the club. Appoximately 2 miles of single track trail are complete out of 10-12 miles of proposed single track. There also exists approximately 9 miles of double track trails open to hiking, biking and horseback riding. There are also two campgrounds located in the southern portion of the park. The "West" unit has 46 sites and the "South" unit has 60 sites. A swimming beach is located at the "West" unit campground. There are NO trail passes required to bike at the Big Eau Pleine County park. The riding season is not defined, however, please use good judgement early in the season when the trails may be quite wet from the spring thaw.
Wausau Wheelers Trail Crew maintains a MAP of the completed and proposed single track trail system in Big Eau Pleine Park. We are working hard to expand the system and the map may not always be up to date.

OTHER GREAT PLACES TO RIDE:
UNDERDOWN: Located northeast of Merrill, WI (about 45 min to and hour from Wausau). The Underdown is a large tract of land that is part of the Lincoln County Forest system. The trail system consists of double track ski trails and a lot of single track. If you like to ride all single track all the time then this is your place. With some very hilly, rooty and rocky terrain you'll be sure to be challenged. If you're not familiar with the Underdown be sure to get your hands on a map (and a GPS) or hook up with a local. This is a very large area with lots of trails. For more information visit: http://thunderdown12.blogspot.com/
STANDING ROCKS PARK: Located east of Steven's Point, WI (about an hour from Wausau) Standing Rocks Park has a great mix of single and double track ski trail. It has a little bit longer riding season than Nine Mile also. Trail passes are required. Check the Portage County website for more information.
LEVIS MOUND TRAILS: Some of the most scenic riding you can find in Wisconsin is only 1 1/2 hours southwest of Wausau. Located 15 miles northeast of Black River Falls (Hatfield, also near Neilsville). The Levis/Trow Mound system of double track ski trails and extensive single track has just about everything for everyone. Lots of trails of moderate difficulty near the trail head and plenty of challenging trail that will take you to the top of the sandstone bluffs with some incredible views....certainly one of the many highlights of this trail system. Levis/Trow Mound is also an IMBA Epic. Trail passes are required. For more information visit the Levis Mound website.
