Where Does My Trail Fee Go??

 MTB Trail News

Ever since the institution of the trail fees at Nine Mile many people have wondered why and where that money goes. Well here is your answer...

Nine Mile is a unique area in that it is a large County Forest Unit but offers more recreation opportunities and facilities of a County Park. Because of that the Marathon County Parks, Recreation & Forestry Dept. has set up what is called an Enterprise Account for Nine Mile. So any and all money generated through the use of Nine Mile goes into that account. All money from bike, ski & snowshoe passes, chalet rentals (many wedding receptions, family reunions, business parties use the chalet), event fees (mountain bike races, XC-ski races, XC running races) goes into the Enterprise account. In turn all expenses to run Nine Mile get charged against that account. All trail mowing, ski trail reconstruction, XC-ski grooming, utility costs, and any materials, tools, etc. that volunteers need for maintaining our beloved singletrack. So in effect, the money we pay for our trail fees goes right directly back into maintaining all recreation opportunites at Nine Mile.
